Thank you both so much!  This is the one we kept.  Kind of goes well with the roses, don't you think?? lol  I really like the way it turned out.  Just barely stopped in time, so did not ruin/overdo it! lol

In nature, anything goes, as far as flowers go that is!  And as usual, there is no pattern to what I do.  I probably should have left the flowers off the base, it did look good without them.{:o)

Sandra, it is marshmallow buttercream applied with a wide spackling knife, having been dipped in hot water first.  Worked like a charm.  Was one of my Christmas presents!

Bonnie, this is incredible!  Your combination of colors is brilliant and unusual and your piping absolutely perfect.  It appears that your icing is perfectly smooth, too!  I am in love with this one.
