While the fondant icing was still fresh, I ran the cut and sized ribbon through fingers to get the excess off.  Then I arranged it on the cake.  With buttercream you might struggle to use fabric ribbon as it will become greasy.  I suggest you let the b cream crust and then stick plastic florists ribbon on with little dots of royal icing.  Hope this helps.

This cake is just beautiful Fiona!  Can you please tell me how you adhered the thin ribbons to the sides of your cake?  I have a cake order for this summer that will have this look with the thin ribbons (not as many though), however the cake will be frosted in crusting buttercream.  Any tips or ideas on getting the thin ribbons to sit mid-tier without falling?

Thank you so much in advance!!
