This was a coffee flavored cake with buttercream and marshmallow fondant. I used a threaded rod that went from under the board all the way through the ball. Ricecrispies covered amd carded to make the hand. Inside the ball about 1/3 of the bottom half there is a board holding the cake in place.

Thank you everyone. To answer a few questions..... The trick to keeping something up high and secure on a threaded rod is, use a bolt and a washer on both sides of the styrophome. The threaded rod is the key. The bolt goes first to keep it at the level you want, then the washer then the styrophome. Then another washer amd bolt. This keeps the styrophome sturdy and then pile the cakes on top, Carve and decorate. The fondant underneath the ball was really hard. If it wasn't for the texture you would be able to see the lines in the bottom. I just figured it out as I went. But I painfully put all those divots in that ball one at a time! I don't recommend it. I'm sure there is a better way. To serve it we just cut the ball in half and set it on a platter. Then served the other half. It was fun!

Why is the bottom 1/3 of the cake (under the board) not slipping down the rod ?????

I love this cake. How would you cut it?

The details in the hand & watch are amazing.
