I learned how to smooth a cake, but it never seem to want to work properly when I want it too! or maybe it is my patience being thin not waiting for the frosting to harden faster! =)

you cakes are really nice, this one i would go to u-tube and watch edna's videos on smoothing cakes, i love her videos, they really help, and there are alot of cake decorating ideas and different way's to do things, i took the wilton classes and thought oh i know how to do that NOT at least not very well, so you have to practice a lot i bought a dummy cake, 3 tears, and i really need to practice lol
