This is a Duncan Hines Blue Velvet Cake filled with Raspberry, frosted with Almond Buttercream topped with Gum Paste Stargazer Lilies. Just wanted to see what a Blue Velvet was - it's a plain old Vanilla cake dyed blue. It was OK with the addition of the Raspberry filling and Almond frosting. Will not make again.

Thank you, Becky! I think lilies are my favorites to make.
Thank you, June, Inoka and Bonnie! I already had the flowers and just stuck them on the cake for the photo. Wasn't in the mood to do anything creative. Bonnie, I just removed them after making the pictures (the cake was for us), cleaned them off and put them back in the china cabinet. They will probably show up on another cake some day.
It is almost a shame to put flowers that pretty on a cake, knowing what is going to happen to them! lol These lilies are so pretty, and realistic! Love the stamens!!
Flowers are so pretty Sandra.
I haven't really been in the mood for any cake stuff either. Have been putting everything off til the last minute. Can't seem to find the motivation.
Thank you, Betty, Katy and Goreti, for your kind words! I already had the flowers and was just too lazy to do any real decorating.
LOL - I couldn't agree more, Goreti and Betty. The blue looks awful...and it is true blue because I added a little violet to offset the yellow in the egg yokes...especially with the raspberry filling. Yuck! Couldn't bring myself to post a picture of the sliced cake.
I agree Goreti... I don't like blue or green, especially in cake batter. Looks moldy to me.
