Ok. Thanks Pamela. So there is a difference between wafer paper and rice paper. Obviously, wafer paper is sturdier.
Will keep your tips. :o)

Good Morning June! I used wafer paper that I've had for awhile. I keep it in a dry cool cabinet in the sealable plastic storage bag it was shipped in. It really holds up with the use of edible markers. I use Wilton fine point markers so that I won't over saturate the paper. To get the image, I just place the image (covered with a small sheet of plastic wrap) under the wafer paper and trace, color in image. I let it air dry, then in it goes into the storage bag until I'm ready for it. I attach the wafer paper image to cake with piping gel. I bet real rice paper is more delicate than wafer paper.

Thanks Katy
Forgot you made a cap. Thing about rice/wafer paper is it falls apart the min you touch it.... at least mine does. How do you use edible markers if that is the case??

June, I did a baseball cap too and Pamela is right - really not hard.  My cap brim was shaped - Just covered a real cap with clingfilm, shaped the gumpaste over it and let it dry.  Then pushed it gently into the cake to attach.  I think I'm right in saying that rice and wafer paper are the same thing, depends where you are what you call it!

This cake was easy! I used a Wilton soccer ball pan (top part) and an eight inch round pan (1layer). I made a dense cake batter so that I could trim the top and bottom cakes sides even. Two days before, I made the bib of the cap out of gumpaste, let dry flat. Next, crumb coat, freeze, frost and smooth, freeze then lay the fondant on. I divided the hat into 6 sections, made lines for those six sections in the cake starting at the top, then ran a stitching wheel over the lines. I added the gumpaste bib, glued that puppy with piping gel to the board, made sure it was pushed slightly in the cake. Careful not to tear anything. Next, I added a button of fondant on top, then took a small piece of fondant and rolled it out thin, I used a number 11 round decorating tip and cut 6 circles. In each circle, I took another round tip #2 and pressed an imprint of circle in the 6 circles. I added the decorations you see with piping gel. The logo was made from wafer paper and edible markers. The letters were made from gumpaste and the slappee things (this took the longest time).   I hope this help, Best Wishes !

I've never made a baseball cap either. My sons b-day is 10 days after Christmas, & I'm always looking for something easy. Was it hard to make? Sons a Blue Jay fan. Son's girlfriends b-day is 10 days before Christmas.... Same deal for the cake... want easy. Think this year going to combine the b-days together. My daughter is due this Dec also.... So will end up with 3 b-days right around Christmas!!!!
