Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

I was inspired to make this cake after seeing Nadia's cakes here on CWB. Mine isn't even close to how beautiful hers are, but at least I gave it my best shot and found that it isn't as hard as I thought! I just need practice on my string work, and need to go down to a smaller tip. Here is a side view. It was a fun cake to make! Thank you Nadia!!

This was a fun cake to do. I covered the cake in black fondant, then cut out my designs from white fondant with different shapes like a daisy cookie cutter, and then using a smaller cutter, cut out the center of the shape. I used a decorator's icing tip for the small circles, and a flower petal cutter for the tear drop shape. Fit them all onto the cake in whatever design you decide, and then go back over the cake with royal icing using a round tip (I should have used a smaller tip) to outline the edges of the fondant. Nadia has several cakes that are outstanding in this technique.

This is just as great!  Do you do the royal icing on the actual cake or not?  really great :-)

It is. I made the cut-outs with fondant and placed them onto the cake, then went back and did the string work. (Not very well, I might add) You can't see the intersecting lines where each cut-out meets because I covered each intersection with the royal icing. When and if I make this again, I will use a smaller tip (#1 round tip) and try to do cleaner work. Thank you for your kind words.
