JaTaen, you might find it easier to get a more delicate result if you use all gumpaste, rather than a mix.

If roll out your gumpaste fairly thick, you can make a template for your numbers, lay them on the gumpaste and cut them out.  Before your gumpaste gets hard put in something like a popsicle stick/wooden coffee stir stick,  so you can use that to push into your cake. Depending on the size of the lettters/numbers, you may need more than one spaced out per letter/number.

Thanks June! I need suggestions for the "bulkiness" of the numbers, (if thats a real word). I used a gumpaste/fondant combo, wrapped around floral wire.
