@ Renae Gonzalez: I did ice the whole cake first. It gives me a canvas to imagine what to do next.

 

@ Corinna Clarahan: I made the sand out of graham crackers and I topped it with fine sugar sprinkles ( I call it fairy dust). For the water I covered the area with light (baby) blue buttercream, then topped that with royal blue piping gel. It gave the water depth (pardon the pun, lol). The rock like candy and gold coins I purchase at Top Foods in their bulk food section.

Did you ice the whole cake green & then add the water on top of the green?
