This is my very 1st attempt at a 3 dimensional figurine from gum paste. He's not perfect but I think I did pretty ok for my 1st try. He's for an enchanted forest type practice cake I'll be making soon. Not for a customer or particular occasion. Just challenging myself to see what I'm capable of.

How exciting!!! Congratulations!! We have 6. 1 granddaughter, who was our 1st & 5 grandsons. Our granddaughter is 17. She will be graduating from hs this coming year...SIGH!! Grandsons range in age from 13 yrs to 18 mos. The 13 yr old, my critic, actually lives w/us. We have custody of him. Our oldest son & his wife have 3 boys. Their ages are 11, 8, & 5. They just moved to North Carolina. Our daughter-in-law just graduated from medical school & that's where she's doing her 3 yr residency. The youngest grandson is our granddaughter's baby brother. I keep him every other week for my daughter. They have all brought so much joy to me & my husband. We love them all so very much & they're all special. Your very 1st one though, well there's just something xtra special. So excited for you.

Katy, I've been looking at the photos of your cakes & I think your granddaughter knows talent when she sees it.  June, my grandson actually did have a school project 2 yrs ago that I helped him with. It was called "The Incredible Edible Cell"...lol. Each student had to make either an animal cell or plant cell in either 3D or from something edible. I Didn't have any money to go buy supplies so I dug thru my pantry and had all the ingredients to make fondant. So "we" made ours from fondant. Don't remember what grade "we" got but it was a huge hit w/his classmates & best tasting. And he had a lot of fun making it. I'll post pics of it in my photos.

Funny, my Daisy (12 year old granddaughter), is completely the opposite.  Any cake she sees - 'you could do that Nanny' or 'ha, you could do that way better than that'.  Lovely for my ego but sadly far from the truth!

He's most definitely my worst critic. If there's a flaw, he WILL find it & point it out. If there's not a flaw, he'll find one & point it out...lol  But I have to say he keeps me on my toes & motivates me toward perfection.
