Thanks Tanja.  The head is another smaller  mud cake, shaped, then balanced on top and dowelled right through.  I extended the body out around the neck area a bit more than would be natural to help the head stay on.

You really did a wonderful job.  It is so neat.  I bet the birthday girl was thrilled.
