Thank you Katy and Goreti. i started doing the cupcakes (33 pcs) and this cake at 4pm. I finished at 5 am (without sleep and dinner). I was a cake decorating zombie. My brain wasn't functioning anymore. lol After finishing, I just stared at it for 30 minutes, realizing the things that I could have improved on.

Actually, this wasn't the original plan. far from it. I had a hard time putting on the fondant since each cake is about 5 inches high. I don't know if I rolled the fondant too thin. I ended up ripping it. Peeling it off wasn't an option since I didn't have enough time and it would be costly to make another batch of fondant. So I thought of the patch work. I'm very happy about how this cake turned out. Worth the extra time and effort.

Another thing that inspired me was I went to a baking expo the same morning and I bought a lot of baking stuff which I was able to use on this cake. I was soooo excited. My husband was laughing at me because I looked like a kid in a toy store. Too bad I ran out of money, I could have bought more. lol

I had fun making this cake and your kind words make me want to strive harder. Thank you ladies :)

btw, any tips on how I could put fondant on tall cakes without tearing the fondant?

Totally agree with Katy.  The color combination is just perfect.  The colors really compliment each other.  Great job on the patchwork.

My gosh Shaira - this looks like a lot of work went into it.  I love your patchwork effect on the sides and the whole thing is a great colour combination.
