Yes, customs can be a problem I know.  Just keep borrowing husband's wallet then lol!

katy, been window shopping at e-bay.. but it would be too costly if i buy stuff from there, plus i don't trust the customs in my country. i have had friends get their "packages' with missing items. i can't risk that.. hubby is a sweetie - most days. lol

i haven't tried MMF. Is it better to use? (I live in a very humid country). about my hubby, well, i kinda had to bully him so i could buy the baking stuff. i remember on my birthday, i asked money from him so I could buy the ingredients in a local baking supplies store. It was raining hard and my 1 year old daughter was with us, so I left them in the car. Since he didn't have any change, he ended up giving me a large bill. i was only supposed to buy flour and sugar but it took me about 30 minutes in the store. of course i did a little baking stuff shopping and when i  got into the car, he asked "Why so many bags? I thought you were only gonna buy flour and sugar..." I told him, "It's my birthday in 2 days, remember? so i took the liberty of buying myself GIFTS on your behalf.. I didn't want you to have a hard time figuring out what gift to give me." LOL i thought he was gonna be a bit annoyed, but he laughed really hard. hahah i loved him a lil extra on that day :P

Shaira, I decided to try a new recipe for fondant.  Not a good idea when you have a 10, 8 and 6 in cakes to cover.  Tasted delicious but terrible to work with.  The first one I did came out horrible but I didn't want to remove it because I used Swiss Meringue buttercream underneath and it would come right off.  Didn't want to take the time to make another batch.  The other 2 cakes I mixed it with some marshmallow fondant that I had (which is what I usually use) and it was a little easier.  I cannot imagine doing it with a 9 in rolling pin.  You definitely need a larger one pronto.  It is funny about hubby.  Mine is the same way doesn't mind that I spend money on these things but yet complains about the mess.

Shaira - check out Goreti's comments on her 'Pink Cake' photo for the story.  Yes, you do need a larger rolling pin, 9" is just making things too hard for you.  Cake tools are blooming expensive here too, I'm sad to say, which is why I don't have as much as I would like.  I look for bargains on ebay and stuff.  Your hubby sounds like a sweetie!

Goreti, what happened?

Katy, I'll definitely give that a try. I think i also need a longer rolling pin. I'm only using a 9" pin. and i don't have that mat thingy with the circles guide.

it's just a pity that baking stuff are kind of expensive and hard to get here. i appreciate that my husband is supportive (most days) haha except when he sees the mess I make. I tell him, "I'm an artist. This is how I work." I was getting frustrated with the cake before he left for work. And when he arrived there, he sent me a text "don't be frustrated. You're an artist, right?" That really made me laugh. lol

and i'm really glad that my sister loved the cake, and the guests liked it as well. even if it was displayed right beside a 3 foot cake. mine looked soo small. lol

Shaira - you could try rolling it out on cling film (do you know what I mean by that?).  It somehow magically sticks to the film and you can lift it so easily, lay it over the cake and just peel the film off.  I saw someone do it on a TV programme and thought I would try it (only once so far), but it worked a treat.  Got a way better shine on the fondant too.  And as for buying tools at an expo, I know exactly what you mean.  It's amazing how much better work you can do with the right tools.  I have had to empty another cupboard in my kitchen to find room for all the extra stuff I have bought.  I too, am indulged by my husband, fortunately.  He just says - if you bake it, I will eat it!

Shaira, after what I went thru this weekend with fondant myself, I am the last person you want to give you a tip.   With my cakes, I find that the final product is slightly different from the original.  It kind of develops as I go along.
