Well Cheryl My hubby got hooked on watching America's Test Kitchen on PBS. We taped all the shows. Now we can never find it. Sometimes it's on, sometimes it isn't. Anyway, he got the cooking bug from that show. The host is a man Chris Kimble. Then he noticed a lot of the cooking shows the cooks were men, and he got hooked watching. He retired a 1 1/2 before me, so he got lots of practice. I actually think he COULD make a cake. You know I should give him a challenge for the next family cake I do, see if he can do it?? hee! hee! Maybe not, then he might critique the heck out of me when I bake???  I have ALWAYS wanted to learn how to ride a horse. Every time I got on one....I froze, got scared, Either the horse didn't move, or got off cause I got nervous.

@ June ,we are both  very lucky to have good husbands,as I told Linda { and her to}...he has always cooked when he was home from working ,he worked out of town for years,Now he'll clean house but he gets side tracked with TV or emails, but the cakes keep him busy.I think he really enjoys them,he  always tells folks about them, brags a little, and makes sure they know he baked them and made the icing .HA!!I get tickled at him,it's something we do together,we have a horse and a mule to ride together and a small RV ,but we have been doing this none stop for about 2 yrs, over the other years{30 plus}I did about 20 a year,he wasn't involved much ,because he worked.Plus cakes are trendy right now, that helps .

@Linda...My husband is pretty good at baking, and he does the buttercream icing excellent, gets lots of compliments. He does like your husband on the supplies and such.HA!The clean up is usually up to me,but he does do it sometimes. But he's a house husband since the heart attack, and the cakes seem to him feel better about not working any more {he was crane operator before}and its better than cleaning house I think for him, although he piddles at that.Oh! And he loves set upor delivery of the cakes,HA!!!!!!

I wouldn't want my husband helping bake! I'm afraid it would be burned for sure! He would help clean up, if I asked him, but I just figure, I made the mess, I need to clean up the mess. But he is my biggest cheerleader and support. He encourages me to always buy the equipment that I need, and if I think it's way too much, he just goes ahead and buys it anyway and then surprises me a few days later.

That's right Cheryl...we ask questions of each other, and what one doesn't know, another does, or can find out. I love the look of a buttercream cake. I also like now that your icing doesn't necessarily have to be SMOOTH anymore. It ran be rough...called shabby chic, or scored up with a tool, or piped in petals, or roughed with a palette knife...all intersting  ways to give a intersting look.

That is amazing your husband bakes the cakes AND makes icing. No way would my hubby do that. He won't even clean up my cake mess, even if I am doing cake for a family member!!!  But he does make dinners, vacs the house, unload the dishwasher...helpful stuff like that.

@ June....I pick up stuff from reading, and now the computer, and of course friends.....I can't do classes on my income either, even tho my husband has disability,it doesn't go far,he's on 23 meds  a day.HA!But he helps alot,he bakes everything and makes all my icing while I work my 40 hrs in 4 days.So I might ask ya lot of questions ,after all that is how ya find things out, huh???

Love your way of thinking Linda!!!!!My cousin just got into cakes 4 yrs a go,does only fondant, she gets great prices on them and they are beautiful, sometimes I get a lil' jealous the money she  makes on them, but I just keep plugging along on the ole buttercream.I don't think the fondant tastes very good either. They say if ya get the real exspensive brands they taste better tho.I wouldn't know.HA!!
