I decided to try this one! Made first batch, yellow cake, and divided into 4 bowls for the 4 colors. In piping bags, & onto parchment paper we went... So far, so good. Ran 1/2 cup of coconut flakes through the chopper to get itty bitty pieces to sprinkle all over the pretty flowers to help fill in the background, and for flavor, of course.
Made second batch, pineapple, and again piped to cover the flowers completely. Banged against counter several times for good measure, & to remove any bubbles...
Can you guess yet what I , oh so foolishly, did wrong? I should have taken time to get the recipe out!!

The grands, & the kids that used to live next door, were all here today. they didn't much mind what it looked like, they just wanted to eat it! lol
Thanks for the backup Sandra & Katy!! If I missed anything else girls, be sure to let me know. Katy, is your Swiss roll a sponge cake too? If so, can I have the recipe?
I did this one by memory, & didn't bother to get out the recipe. I used a DH Pineapple cake, instead of a 'SPONGE' cake, and that is why it cracked so badly when I rolled it. After I made a mess of everything, I got out the recipe, should have done that 1st thing, and right there in the title was the clincher, 'SPONGE' Cake Roll. Sponge cakes will roll, regular flaky cakes will not! Lesson learned!!
These are awesome Bonnie. Something I still want to try with my next Swiss roll. But for the life of me, I don't get what it is you did wrong??????????????????
Bonnie, you had me completely at a loss as to what you were doing until I saw the second picture. Never seen anything like this in my life!! I still don't know what is wrong, even with you telling me. I think this is one of the coolest things I've seen in cake making! I think you invented this one!!
You can quit laughing anytime now... {:o)
