The couple wanted a "not so wedding-ish" cake, for their small party here after returning from their ceremony in the islands. The bride's only other request: tigerlilies. All handmade decor, SMBC finish

Beautiful!!
Once again, I totally agree. Most designs that appear "simple" are truly the most time-consuming. That factor is definitely a hindrance when quoting prices to clients, because they feel that because a cake may not be loaded with intricate decor it takes little labor. Quite then opposite, of course. Not The 'simple' design on this cake required so much math my head hurt when I was done sketching; but the precision is necessary for a polished product. If I hadn't determined all the width and spacing, the client would have received a very unprofessional-looking finished piece, and I'm sure would have been very disappointed!
It's true. I don't think people have a clue how long it takes to produce something like this from start to finish. It's one of the reasons my husband does not want me to do cakes for anyone outside of the family.
I agree! That's why I'm always torn when a client wants them; I know it will be a gorgeous finished product, but I cringe at the thought of prepping for it hahaha Ahhhhh the torture we chefs endure :)
Beautiful! Yes, there is a lot of work that goes into sugar flowers, but nothing is prettier!
Thank you! I love how the flowers look, but they are SO LABOR INTENSIVE, right?
so pretty
Lovely cake Paige
