I made this gumpaste hydrangea for a surprise birthday cake in a March. Plus many small hydrangea petals to adorn the cake. Added a fantasy leaf for fun instead of the traditional hydrangea leaf. Wanted to use a impression mat I just bought.
Alas, the lady cancelled coming to the luncheon unbeknownst to her that it was actually a surprise party for her 70th birthday!!! Unfortunately, many other dates trying to re-schedule the party have failed. So not sure the flowers will get used. So I thought might as well post. :o)

Thanks Betty... Unless your a decorator, sewer, crafter....you don't understand or appreciate the time it takes to produce something like this. Hopefully there will be a cake I can use it and the other flowers on...

That's the trouble with surprises, sometimes they just don't work out. Too bad, your flowers and shading are so pretty, and all that time you put into it.   :( I would have been slightly annoyed too.

Thanks G. One of the ladies is suppose to have a spring luncheon. So whether the birthday lady comes or not...probably pop this on top of a cake to take...

So pretty-love the shading-too bad you have been able to use it yet--This really takes a lot of time because you have to make so many in order to get a decent sized bunch.  On top of that, they break so easily since there is not much holding the petals.  Sure hope you get the chance to use them

Well....they have no idea of the hours it took to make this flower & the petals..etc. Think they think I just popped them out lickity split. I was fairly annoyed...considering the time spent. Oh well...good practice...

problem is, it's OK for them, they don't understand the disappointment for you :(

Yes Katy. I also made a large gumpaste heart border and a pile of pom pom flowers. They were actually made closer to end of Feb. This is a lady in our theatre group. We discussed at length how to get the birthday lady to the designated house, while not spoiling the surprise . When she cancelled, I was all for just telling her so we could go ahead with the celebration. Picking a day she would be available. Well there was much hemming & hawing...and nothing decided!!! So latest consensus now amongst the other theatre ladies is to have a "spring" luncheon with all of us "just because". But there's no guarantee she won't cancel coming to that either. Think the time has passed for a birthday celebration now. So guess it can be the "spring" cake if we ever do have the luncheon. Will see...... :o)

Lovely work June - what a shame for you.  It's so disappointing to put effort into something and have it come to nothing.
