Half sheet WASC cake filled with raspberry jam, frosted with vanilla-almond buttercream for a house warming party. I tried to pipe flowers, but I am hopeless and resorted to using gum paste roses and my little nesting wren finally found a home.

Thank you, June! I was pleased with how smooth I was able to get this one. I don't remember the recipe, but the consistency didn't seem to be the problem. I am just a spastic when it comes to piping flowers. I guess I need to stick to gum paste.
Thanks for the encouragement, Goreti! I really want to try the chrysanthemum, but I don't have that tip yet. Roses definitely are not my thing! Katy, I think consistency is part of my problem, too, but another big part is lack of patience.
Don't give up Sandra. Maybe buttercream roses are just not your thing. Try your luck with some other flower. I bet you can conquer buttercream. lol
Sandra, it's the same for me! I am pretty sure it's all to do with the consistency, but in what way is a mystery to me................
LOL - good try Goreti! I did that and my flowers still looked like blobs. The only roses I've ever made that were usable were the ones I used on Betty's birthday cake and I had to make about 50 to get that little handful. I just have to face it, I can't pipe flowers!
This is lovely. Sandra, the trick with the roses is to turn the flower nail with one hand while piping with the other.
Katy, I made at least a dozen roses, none of them usable. I can barely manage to pipe a border....not great, but passable.
Thanks so much, Nadia!!
Rubbish, your piping is great and you sure did nail it with the smooth bc
