to get the glossy/mirror finish on the surface, i painted the cake with edible varnish,(recipe found at www.sugarcraft.com).

This is really brilliant. How did you get the white details  to reflect from the black finish - like it is a glossy/mirror finish surface? It looks brilliant.

i did carving for this cake, i knew i couldnt find a pan that large, this was my first guitar cake. I never use pans, i always carve 3d cakes, dont have the space to hold all those pans,lol.
