Very true, I hadn't thought about that.  I guess those who can....do, and those who can't....PAY!!!  Haha!

I'm with June on the price.  Don't undervalue yourself.  They can't do it, you can, that costs.

Ah
Firstly Dee, $350-500, isn't too much off the mark. With the hours you put into a cake like this + supplies?? Ya, you have to make a profit.
The fishing line. I made crafts, & used it for all sorts of things. The very 1st cake I made, I had skittles attached to fishing line dangling from the grooms hands. I made a guitar cake, the Wilton pan. Finished it, wasn't happy cause I couldn't figure out the "string thing"! Dah, I had the fishing line, & never thought of it at the time. Geez.

Oh, and a quick question.  Someone at the party asked me if I made this for someone else how much would I charge.   I didn't really give an answer, but if I had answered with the amount that popped into my head they would have fainted - $500!!!  Haha, that should discourage anyone from wanting it!  :)  Seriously, I wouldn't have a clue.  To me, that is the hardest part - pricing my work!!

June - that is a fabulous idea for the strings.  Not being a fisherman I don't know but am guessing there is different strength (i.e. thickness) of fishing line?  I will definitely check that out.

Katy - that's a hoot!  I think he was so shocked that I made this for him, I could have gotten away with cabbaging some of his strings!! :)

Or you could have really got yourself in trouble and nicked his spare set of the real things!

Cake is absolutely awesome Dee.  Try using fishing line for the strings.

Haha Dee - I like the way you put 'material' in there!  My husband is the same - his Fender Strat and his motorbike.
