A Frankenstein birthday cake for Carlos. For one of my daughter's friends son. Cake almost didn't get made..a bit of miscommunication. Mom wanted small family birthday cake. Low down from Carlos, I want a really, really scary Halloween cake. Thought this was scary cute for a three yr old. Cake was 2 victoria sponge flavoured with peppermint/cookies and cream, and a blueberry. I made 2 sets of eyes, and went with the big ones. Decided, just for fun to put the little eyes on the back of the cake. You can see from Carlos smile, he loved it.

I love blue curacao. It's the "dye" in the food colouring that's the culprit. Can cause neurological damage. And anyone with ADD, ADHD and food sensitivities will send them off the deep end. But if your careful, and limit the junk...food and drinks. Then the occasional cake with colored fondant is fine. Or rip the fondant off...that's where the colouring mostly is anyway.

LOL - I understand the concept, but I will usually try anything.  I do only use half the specified food coloring for red velvet cake just because I don't like the idea of all that color.  I won't drink anything blue either, although I never thought about it before.  Maybe it subconsciously reminds me of Windex, too!

Well food colouring, unless it's organic, really isn't healthy for you. I've no urge to eat a rainbow cake unless organic food colours were used. I use beets and beet juice to make my red velvet cake. And this blueberry cake, the colour was achieved by using freeze dried organic blueberries.

It's not just kids who are funny about certain color in foods.  I'm a little weird too especially if it is food coloring.  I love to see cakes decorated in bright colors but I really don't want to eat fondant or frosting with certain colors.  Forget rainbow cakes.  I don't even like red velvet because of all the red food coloring.   That goes for drinks too.  Won't drink anything blue because it reminds me of windex.  No blue curacao for me.  lol

That is so fully!  Kids are so weird about colors.  My grandson didn't want to try quiche because he could see a speak of green onion in it, but once he tasted it, he loved it.  Same thing with bran muffins.  They didn't look like his mom's blueberry muffins, so he didn't want try one.  After breakfast was over there was one muffin left.  He and his sister fought over it - lol!

Thanks Sandra. Carlos Mom, had to convince him to cut the cake. And when he did, he thought it was bad because of the blue cake!! Got Carlos to take a bite, loved it..then he devoured the whole slice!!!
