This is my latest wedding cake. 3 Heart shaped tiers 11",8" & 5". Top and bottom rich English fruit cake and the middle a Chocolate sponge layered with SMB and flaked chocolate. All covered in powder blue Fondant (and marzipan in the case of the fruit).
Adorned with 53 handmade, handpainted edible butterflies. I made a few extra to look as if they were floating toward the cake on a ruffled fine sparkle net draped over pale blue silk. The wording on the cake 'Never Say Never' - it was second time around for both the bride and groom.
Hope you like it. Tracy xx

It took me a whole evening to roll my gum paste out, cut the butterflies and arrange them to dry. Then after the first butterfly was painted and I was happy with the colours I think it was taking around 4-5 mins for each one. Then they were brushed with confectioners varnish and left to dry. I hazard a guess at about 8 hours in total.

How long did it take you to make all of them...? Just curious...
