I've made the first batch of butterflies to adorn a 3 tier Heart shaped wedding cake. It's due to be finished and delivered on thursday, so watch this space.

Hi Anne,
I only bought edible varnish for the first time to use on these. It's not ultra shiny, just gives a lovely sheen. I've used clear piping gel and while I think it will work it will taken longer to dry and will be shinier. I've used the piping gel as water before and love it. The varnish was £9.99 but I'm glad I bought it. Give piping gel a go - they looked equally nice matt. I'm told steaming gives the same kind of effect, but doesn't last so long. Tx

Okay, so I googled edible varnish and came up with a recipe of gelatin, water & corn syrup, is that what u did Tracy or did u buy it?  How about the shiny piping gel from Wilton, I had used it on my car cake to make the windshield and glass shiny, do u think that will work?

Tracy, the pics would be great and thank you for the detailed description............whew a lot of work but so worth it, your butterflies look amazing. I think I am going to try out some butterflies but first need to get some edible varnish, I hope Michaels has it.

Ok Katy - I'll have to work out how to do that. I think I have to post it as a blog - or maybe I could slide show it as a video. I'll pop a message here when I've done it. Tx

Don't know about Anne, but I'll put my oar in here and say that I would like you to post the process photos.  Very interested to see those.
