Tracy, that was to 'conceal' all of the stupid breaks from those darn leaves! They kept breaking off! His beak is a little bunchy there, but it was hard getting those colors to stick to such a small little guy. I think it is a boy, by the way. Thank you for kind words! You know it always means so much more from a fellow artist, because they know how difficult some of these things can be.
