Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

I made this cake for a Valentine Cake giveaway drawing that I had here in my town. I just finished it and the winner picked it up a few minutes ago. It was a sour cream almond white with almond butter cream filling, and covered in fondant. I'm kind of bummed because you can't see the pearl luster edible paint in the picture. It was shimmering on all of the piping. The big red roses are royal icing, and the buds are gum paste. The Girl Valentine on top is gum paste fondant mix and is hand painted with chalks and food pastes.

So sweet! Young girls really love the decorated cakes or cookies. They still have that awe in them, and that special something that children have, whereas adults lose whatever that is. I don't know how to put it in words. Kinda like with Christmas and Santa, or that special teacher, us adults lose something over the years that children still have. Even young boy have that awe when it comes to something beautifully decorated. I get young boys once in a while in my cake class and it's so refreshing and it keeps me young and fresh too!

Thank you Diana. I loved making it too. It was for a cake drawing giveaway that I had this last February and I wanted it to be especially pretty and Victorian. A little 10 year old girl won it and when she came to pick it up, she brought me a rose! That really touched me.

And it shows... your lines are so even (in the criss-cross piping lines) Great job Linda!

Tim, this is the first time I have used the royal icing on the piping. I even printed out one of your cake pictures to set beside me so that I would have some inspiration to go with. I wish I had not used the flower shaped pan and went with round. I think I would have been able to do more drapes and much more dramatic borders. It's a first for me with the royal icing being piped on the actual cake. I did like the idea that I could 'paint' on the luster dust without it dissolving the icing. The little girl who won it was in heaven.

Thank you Goreti. When you are giving it away, you can do whatever the heck you want, can't you! I wasn't too cracked about the Fleur DE Les (however you spell it) but once they were on, there was no taking them off.
