Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

The challenge that we had for our cake club this month was to make a teacup out of some edible material. Mine is made from gum paste and then painted on the inside with gold luster dust and the outside was super pearl luster dust, and then I used food paste to paint the flowers on the outside of the cup.

Thanks Linda, I am at a low confidence level at the moment so maybe your "challenge" is the right jump start!

Oh! By the way! Thank you so much for your kind words, Laurie! I will expect to pay you back the same compliment when I see your cup and saucer!! (heh, heh...just a little challenge there for ya!

Laurie, it is not as hard as it looks. I thought that it was going to be a real stinker too, but if you follow the steps in this tutorial it's pretty easy. You just have to resist touching it and picking it up! They used the pan, and I just used a tea cup that I had 'inherited' from my mother-in-law when she passed away. The saucer was easy too. Just roll the gum paste thin, lay it right on top of the saucer, trim off the ridge and let it dry.http://www.make-fabulous-cakes.com/gum-paste-teacup.html

Linda, this looks like you could pour a cup of tea into it - it is so real and dainty.  I would love to try this type of work one day but am not sure I have the talent or patience that you and others do.  This is so awesome!

Thank you Anne. It is so light weight that when I pick up the box I have it stored in, I keep forgetting and have to look every time to make sure there is something in the box! lol

Dina, there are several tutorials on line on how to do the teacup. This was my first one. I didn't think it was hard at all. My only problem was that the top of my cup was wavy. I'll learn from this one how to do it again. Thank you so much for your kind words. Nothing ventured, nothing gained...give it a try! You might be surprised at what you come up with!
