basket is made of fondant/gumpaste cake inside is chocolate layer, leaves are made of very thin airbrushed fondant. Large pumpkin was carved from red velvet layer cake and covered with a thick coat of fondant and also airbrushed. Goards and small pumpkin were made from smaller carved chocolate layer cakes and also cake putty (cake crumbs and buttercream) then shaped and frozen before dirty icing and fondant or chocolate coating.

Well, one good thing, your second prize win isn't too shabby, as that would have been the prize I would have most likely used the most for my type of decorating. That's just my humble opinion. I can see that sugar veil used on all kinds of wedding cakes, and any other kind of fancy, lacy cake, so you still came out a winner in my book!

I agree, the "off with your head' cake was awesome for a Halloween cake. I guess now we all know that CWB say one thing and mean another. Sad!

Well, isn't that funny, I was thinking the exact same thing when I saw Fall Harvest didn't get 1st place. The "Off with the Head" was amazing, no doubt, but that was more Halloween/Scary theme.  This contest  was  to be a "FALL" themed cake, pretty simple.

by the way...I agree with Gail. Yours should have been first place since it was a FALL (not Halloween) cake design.

Sandie!......and you thought you didn't have time to enter this contest! I am so happy you did, and happy for your second place win!!! CONGRATULATIONS!! You truly are an artist! You will have to keep us updated on your sugar veil experience. I have wanted to learn that technique too, so you should have fun.

Sandie, you should have gotten 1st place, as the winner's cake was a halloween cake, not a fall cake. But hey, that's just me. Congrats!!!!!!!

Yay!  I am so excited!  I am still in Missouri visiting my new 9 month old grandson, Jace Edward Lee Weatherspoon, for the very first time and checked on my daughter's computer to see that I won 2nd place!  How very cool!  I am excited about getting a chance to work with sugarveil!  Hmmm, now I have to think of some even more creative cake ideas to wow everyone!  Still want to do the tipped over basket for some occassion in the near future.  I will be coming home on Monday and once I get settled I will start planning the next cake!  Thanks everyone for your support and votes!
