I am posting this cake with a very heavy heart. I made the gumpaste pot and clay flowers weeks ago for my good friend and next door neighbour, Eleanor for her birthday, which was 2 days ago. Her children and husband had planned this little birthday party. But her husband got rushed to the hospital a week ago, couldn’t breathe. He’s still in hospital. They found a large mass in his lung. Eleanor called me over to her house this morning very early to tell me her the mass is cancer and its terminal. We held each other and we cried and cried. Her family has been here from out of town to support her since her husband got admitted to hospital. I told her about the cake, and said I wouldn’t bother with it. Eleanor said, please, go ahead, decorate it. I didn’t feel in the least bit creative..but I rolled up my sleeves and just went with it… Helped keep my mind occupied…..going to take it next door now…hoping the flower keepsake will bring a small smile in an otherwise terrible situation.

You, and they, have our prayers.  If anyone can help her to smile, now &/or later, it will be you because your concern is real.

It's a lovely cake June - topper is awesome. I'm sure Eleanor will appreciate something to lighten her mood, if only a little and for a little while.

Thanks so much Sandra for your lovely comments. I'm really going to be needed when all her family leaves Monday. My many years of palliative training will really be able to help.....

Looks like I failed to hit "Add Comment" on this one before.
I am so sorry, June, for such a sad occasion. My heart goes out to you, Eleanor and her husband and family. This is such a wonderful cake. It had to lighten the burden at least for a little while.
Love the marbled fondant and perfect roses. The grass and stems are just the right touch of green. The topper just leaves me speechless - incredible!

Unbearably sad. Australia is so far away but I am sending thoughts and prayers to your friend and family, also for yourself. Such talent in the cake , it will bring something nice to the family at this sad time.
