Customer has flowers to put on top and side of cake.

Is it just me or do these stripes look crappy??? It is SOOOOO humid here - we had thunderstorms all last night. I put tylose in my black fondant and it would still stretch when I was putting it on the cake. Had to keep putting the cake back in the frig every 30 minutes to prevent bubbles under fondant.

Do you think I should put the rhinestones around the gold fondant on the bottom tier?? Hubby told me not too because there are rhinestones on the cake board but my OCD is telling me to put it on.

It is lovely.  You really have been having terrible weather there haven't you?  My daughter is currently living in Austin and has told me all about it.

Thanks June!!!  I will definitely try the corn starch and freezer suggestions!!  Will the cornstarch change the flavor of the fondant??  I did put Tylose powder in the fondant which helped some but if I put too much it is too rubbery.  Spring is the worst time here humidity wise.  I would rather battle summer heat than spring humidity!!

Lovely....SOoooo hard to work with fondant when it's humid. A good trick, add some cornstarch to your fondant, helps decrease the stretch. And when it's humid here, I put my moulded pieces of fondant in the freezer, don't take them out until I'm placing them on the cake. I'm wondering, if you had laid the stripes out on a cookie sheet in the freezer, and took them out, waited say a minute or so, you could have attached them still cold, not completely frozen of course, or they would have cracked and split when you bent them to attach.

rhinestone off the top tier was the right thing to do as they were flowers to be added imo.  And, no, the black stripes don't look crappy lol.  It's lovely, bet the flowers will really make it pop

I believe flowers are hot pink and white. I took rhinestones off of top tier. Customer thought it was too much - that resolved my issue. I asked if she could send me a picture of cake with flowers - no response yet. I deliver in the morning. Hope she will do it!

I agree, Becky....my OCD is telling me the same thing.  Sorry to hear about your trouble with the fondant, but your cake is gorgeous.  What color flowers?
