Hi Pat,
Again, I thank you for any, and all, hints on working with ALL this 'cake' stuff. I was just putting finished pieces in plastic containers with tight lids, for storage in the basement. Now I shall start covering them up. Not that I make that many ahead anyway, only when a BD, or baby shower, comes up. I did do one 4 tier wedding cake for an in-law type relative once, but she sent her own gal here to decorate it, so I don't count that as one of my cakes. She wanted black & red, with no flowers, and the wedding party wore black jeans & red t-shirts. They got married at the race track. 'I' did not attend. lol
The only time I go on facebook is to download pictures of the grands from their parent's pages, I think that is what you call them. I don't go anywhere else, and do not except the 'friend' thing from the rest of my very large extended family. Heck, my cell phone is set not to receive messages, &/or texts. If they want me, they have to talk to me.
No my gum paste stayed the same colour, what was left over goes in a bag then into a box in the fridge. I cover my flowers or anything made from gum paste with tissue until I am ready to use them, I find everything keeps it's colour better. Once made a batch of roses and all the colour faded so I now cover everything and it seems to have done the trick. Are you on facebook ? I have a page Pats Cakes I have more cakes on there.
Pat, Pat, Pat!! Thank you soooo much! You don't know how long we have been trying to find a solution to a 'purple' that doesn't turn 'blue'! Or taste like grapes. lol
And I am assuming this cake may have been at least a day or 2 old when this pic was taken, or to when the purple rose itself was made? Have you done other things using this formula for a purple, and had it/them long enough that we can assume they will not, or did not, turn blue??? Do you think/know if this is the solution to our problem?!
Hi Bonnie, just keep practicing with the gum paste flowers, I am self taught, I have watched dozens of tutorials online, there are lots of free ones, this is the best way to learn by watching closely how they do it. The decorations on the cake are done with Patchwork cutters, and very thinly rolled out gum paste. I got the deep colour for the rose by starting with lavender or purple gum paste then adding Sugarflair Violet and Claret, just keep adding till you get the colour you want. Hope this helps, thanks for you kind comments. If I can help you with anything else just let me Know.
And how did you get that purple rose such a deep color? Sweet!
Pat, you make these look so easy, but having tried them before, myself, I know better! They are so very well done! How did you do the decorations on the cake itself? All those very nice flowers & leaves..., ? I am loving this cake.
