Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

I just came across this old photo and wanted to share with you. This is a cake that I made approx. 19 yrs ago. I had just gotten a copy Cake Bible and decided to try this. Had never made fondant and didn't even know where to get glycerin. A friend of mine who did cakes got it for me. I didn't even tell my sister I was making this because I had no idea how it would come out. Didn't even have a rolling pin so used a round glass bottle. I had never used royal icing either but did the royal icing then hand painted the flowers. The baby on top was purchased. As you can see, I also had no idea about decorating a board & such.

Hey

Pretty good G.  I remember my very 1st cake. A wedding shower cake with purchased plastic doves. My oh my... wouldn't post it here.  Yours is really good for a 1st crack.  I also made my sons christening cake & think I used the same littel baby... hee hee

I can tell how anxious you were to make it, isn´t it always the same with a cake you´ve never done before and you feel the urge to make it?  Well, good job for anyone who knew nothing about cake decoration!  =0)

Luz, I knew nothing about cake decorating.  I have always loved to bake so my sister gave me the Cake Bible.  While looking thru it, I just decided that I wanted to try doing this.

haha Linda -I've always been a bit of a comedienne, I'm told.  I think it's the sardonic Brit in me........

Goreti, what a lovely memory I think this is a  beautiful cake, even though as you said you didn´t know much about decorating a cake I find it beautiful.  Thank for sharing such an experience!

Goreti, you have always had it running through your blood, I can see! What an interesting way to put that, Katy....a virgin! I'm really snorting on that one! You have the most colorful way of expressing yourself! You just make me laugh! I'll bet you are a hoot at parties!

Katy, now I look at it and see all the flaws but I was so darn proud of this at the time.  My nephew is now in college and this was made for his Christening.
