I wrapped them with foil then tape before inserting them. And being that its on fondant i was not too worried. But i could see her concerns.

We did a cake similar to this one and sent a picture to Kerry Vincent for her comments.  She was adamant that you never put feathers on a cake as they are unsanitary whether real or fake.  They do look great though.
