Playing around with leftover gum paste. Wanted to try another kind of Dahlia. Pretty happy with how it came out.

Thanks Betty.  Was a little time consuming but I really enjoyed it.

I think this is my all time favorite too.  I still have it.  I made another one and gave it to someone to use on a cake she was making.  She was thrilled.

Julie, I used Wilton Gerbera Daisy cutters and folded all the petals back so that they almost look curled.. I actually did it in 2 parts and then combined them. The middle I used a mixture of gumpaste & fondant & made a ball which I actually stuck on a toothpick (this way I can just stick on cake). I let that dry a little. Then I did 3 rows of the smaller Daisy cutters. The first row I glued some of the petals to the ball. The next 2 rows I placed pieces of papers towels here & there so that the petals would look more natural after they dried. I put that aside then I did the larger ones. I think I did 3 of those. I placed them to dry again placing pieces of paper towel so that they dried that way.  Then combined the two.  There is a tutorial on lovelytutorials.  I also googled the image of the actual flower and kind of went back & forth between the tutorial & the image.

Goreti, I would put your flowers up against Alan's any day!

The vines I simply wrapped floral tape on wire and then wrapped it around my finger to get that look.  I kind of like it.  I made an extra Dahlia, some filler flowers and those vines and gave to someone who is going to use it on a friend's shower cake.  It was bugging me that she was going to use a flower that I used on a family cake (my sister brought it to work).  I didn't like the flower.  Didn't feel it was good enough.  She was thrilled with the dahlia.

Are those vines made from gumpaste too?
