Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

For the garden of my granddaughters Anderson Shelter school project. Thanks to artdeco for her tips on how to do them. A much smaller scale than hers, but I'm reasonably happy with them. As with everything, they'll be better next time (if there is a next time of course - cabbages are much in demand these days!)

Gail & I are "buddies". Talk off the CWB site. Should have asked her or Linda for their expertise. Oh well, live & learn!!!

Thanks June.  I'll bet you're being too critical of yourself, as everyone is, and that your cabbage was wonderful.  Gail at artdeco did a really good one and she passed on some tips to me, which I found very helpful.

I like all your elements Katy. Your cabbages look great. I made a giant one holding a baby, and wasn't happy with it at all. Did it & re-did it until I had to be satisfied with what I had. Should have asked for help here on CWB.  I am sure your corrugated iron shed will turn out fine. Like Linda, I am excited to see the finished project.

Well, I'm excited to see the end result! I'll keep my eyes on this site waiting!

Oh thanks Linda!  We have several bits pre made now.  But the wretched school changed the deadline to after the Easter holidays, so I'm in a bit of a quandary now.  The sponge was already made and shaped, so I've put that in the freezer.  Ivy leaves, tomatoes, signposts and front and rear sections all in an airtight tin and hoping for the best.  Daisy is going to do most of this - she made the tomatoes and the ivy leaves (ivy cutter and then 'painted'!).  I have made the front and rear sections separately and will stick them on when we assemble.  I tried all sorts of ways of doing the corrugated iron - even tried making a frame from cake dowels, but I just couldn't get them to lay evenly.  So what we've decided to do is to put the fondant on smooth and then 'dent' them over with a thinnish cake dowel while it's still soft and then paint with grey dust and add rust with brown dust.  Daisy will do the painting - she wants to be able to say that she had a big hand in constructing, which is as it should be as it's her project.  Of course, I will stand by and advise and assist.............

Oh, you are getting things ready to put together, Katy! I can't wait to see it all composed once you have everything made. Have you figured out how to do the corrugated building yet? These are adorable.
