Outstanding directions! Thank you for sharing!
I made the gold metal parts (links?) and dried them overnight, then I made the handles and rolled the ends thinner with a skewer and attached them to the gold links. I left them to dry for about 4 days, turning over twice a day. To complete the handles, I made the bottom parts that attach the handles to the cake and stuck them to the cake and glued the handles together with royal icing where they meet at the top. It's a bit tricky because you have to line them up on the cake and get a helper to hold one while you fix the other one on. Once they've been stuck on overnight they're quite sturdy. This is the second one I've made and the handles haven't fell down or off on either of them. Just make sure they are dried out before attaching them.
Would you share how you got your handle to stand up? This is outstanding - very well done!
