lol yes it stains your mouth , but I purchased this in a bucket at sam's club , the taste is ok ,  when I make red I use the tasteless gel coloring ! or that will taste like yuck ,if you add cocoa powder to your buttercream and than add black its good , let it sit and the black gets deepest  black , but I do know what you are saying ,

I remember making a Coca Cola van cake for my daughter's 8th birthday and the tires were as black as this cake. The red was fire engine red. I went into the kitchen to serve up the drinks for the kids, and I could hear them at the dining room table all saying how nasty the red frosting tasted. Then I heard a kid chime in saying to try the tires because they tasted just as bad or worse than the red van. They kept eating it even though it did have that icky flavor, and after they were done, their faces were such a black and red mess, I had to scrub their little faces for a good half hour before their parents came and got them. Every time I see a super black or super red color in icing, I think of those darn kids. (But it really was a neat looking cake, in spite of the nasty taste! lol)
