Well, it still is an awesome cake-especially with the contrasting colors. Doing those frill cakes aren't as easy as they look, are they! I had problems with the frills wanting to fall down until I read somewhere to use toothpicks poked in at a vertical angle here and there to hold the frill until it started to become hardened.

No, they aren't too thin. In fact they could be a little thinner. Did you use fondant or half gum/half fondant? What I do, is roll it out as thin as I think I can without it breaking, then cut it with my ribbon cutter (sometimes-not always-sometimes just that pizza cutter tool) and then only do one edge of ruffling it with a frill tool. My first practice cake and also my big white wedding cake, I actually just used my round metal ball tool, then Tracy D told me about the frill tool and said that it goes so much quicker. Rub a little Crisco on the edge that you are frilling out. See if that stops if from breaking. But, Gail, if you go to Maggie Austin Cakes, a lot of hers have little breaks in them. She is the one who started the frilled cakes to begin with. She is on Facebook, if you haven't already found her. Hers look literally like tissue paper they are so thin.
