Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

This was my first entry into my first cake competition. I won 1st place and Best in Division - Adult Advanced. My cake was chosen by Brides Editor, Maria McBride for the 75th Anniversary Edition of Brides Magazine Mar 09 Issue. Maria was the one to coin the name "That 70's Cake" when I told her I based it on retro fabric I had recently purchased. It was featured on the same page with my idol Rebecca Sutterby. How cool is that!

Thank you Tracy! I could swear that I had a dress made out of the fabric I based this on in about 1973. I made the stand with laminate covered plywood circles ringed with black wooded beads. The legs on the lower plate were door stops I painted black. The dividers are candle sticks glued to painted wood plaques. The cake was displayed with another shorter candle stick between the top two tiers for the competition. Brides removed it for their photograph which gave it a less formal looks. I like it bothe ways.

I LOVE everything about this....the cake, the colours, the design and your stand. It's a fantastic creation and you should be really proud of it :)
