Every month since February, I have been giving away one cake as a good will gift among those in my community. This is the one I made for May. I did a Shirley Wilson and made a plaque out of gum paste that says Happy Mother's Day. Her cakes always look so classy with those trademark plaques of hers. Thank you Shirley for such a great idea! I made the buttons from a mold I made from a real button. The fondant is lemon/butter/vanilla flavored marshmallow fondant. I covered the cake board with it too and airbrushed it gold to match. The flowers on top were going to be real as an added bonus....until I priced them at the grocery store florist! Starting price for a cake topper? $50.00!!! So, I opted for silk. I so stink at making flowers. I know, I know, I just need to practice. ugh!

Linda your cake is beautiful and the idea of giving cakes a way is wonderful How do you make the buttons in two colors? Congratulations.
Thank you June!
This is gorgeous Linda. Another masterpiece......as usual
Thank you your cakeness!
Hahahahaha! I had a feeling that was coming...
Linda, I think it's so neat that you do this for people. Bless your heart!!
Thank you everyone. (and you too, your cakeness lol-inside joke). The reason I did this, Katy, is because I am a hobby baker more than I am in this for the business. But I still want a 'reason' to bake a cake and sharpen my skills without me and hubby stuffing our faces all the time with cake! So, I devised a cake drawing giveaway for each month and my husband takes a flyer to his work, and my daughter takes a flyer to her work, and all my grandchildren tell their friends and then I also post it on my Facebook page. Anyone can enter, but there is one 'rule' in entering, and that is that the person who wins has to be able to pick up the cake. I won't deliver and I won't send it (obviously) in the mail. I send along with my flyer paper that has about ten entry lines per piece of paper, where they have to fill it out and send them back with my husband and daughter or grandkids, and then I cut all the names off, fold them and tape them closed and I don't remove the names from month to month until a person wins, then whoever wins has to start all over. The ones on Facebook, I just have them add their names, their friends and families names to whatever thread I post about which cake I am doing next. I just copy down their names, add them to the 'pot' of names and each month they can keep submitting their names hopefully until they win. That way, they can double their chances of winning if they did not win the month before. I get to make a cake the way I want to make the cake, and hubby and I are not eating cake until we weigh 10000 pounds!! I know I could just make a bunch of dummy cakes, but this is so much more fun, and one cake a month is nothing in the grand scope of things, and it is so much fun to give someone the opportunity to win something. I never win anything, but sure would like to!! So there you have it.
Very pretty, Linda!!
Linda, this is so lovely. Personally, I think the silk flowers on top is an added bonus as it is something that can be kept as a memento. The buttons are beautiful (gonna nick that idea lol!), and you are so good as that billowing thing. You are one darn nice person, aren't you, doing a cake every month. What sort of people get them and how do you decide?
Thank you both, Nadia and Goreti.
