I made my 2nd sculpted/3D cake and I'm so happy with it! This was made for my nephew who's turning 12 and loves to fish and said that he "was put on this earth to fish." He also just joined a junior bass fishing club. The fish itself is rice krispie treats and then covered in the MMF and then detailed and hand painted. The cake is strawberry, his favorite, with buttercream. I made the cattails from gum paste. I also made some lures, sinkers and bobbers and put them on cupcakes as decoration.

For next weekend I'm trying a bust of a character from a video game (Noble 6 from Halo: Reach) for my husband's nephew's birthday, will be a lot of fun!

I scooped some cake out of the area the 2 fish halves we going to so that they would be inset a little. I have dowel supports running up into the rice treats from the bottom up and the dowels extend down into the cake. I also used icing as a glue in between the bottom of the pieces and the cake. It's pretty sturdy!

Zombie cake sounds awesome! I will be making a zombie cake in October too. I can't wait; it's going to be so much fun! I've just been winging it getting pieces to stay up. I've no idea how the zombie cake will stay up! I plan to have it coming out of the ground.
