This was a three layer 10 inch sour cream pound cake with a cooked lemon butter cream filling and faux fondant (Viva paper towel method) butter cream icing all over cake. Keys made from fondant, bear, duck and shoes made from gum paste, and blocks were petite fours covered with poured fondant.

Anne, use the Viva paper towel method. It smooths it right up! Just let your butter cream crust over a little, then take a paper towel with no pattern embossed on it, (you can use a flour sacking tea towel too, just make sure it is ironed smooth) and then use a smoothing tool that you would use for fondant and gently put pressure on the towel and press as if you were ironing.
I don't see any boo boos, I am still trying my best to get my bc smooth.
Thank you Anne...this was a first: First time using gum paste, first try at faux fondant, and first time making shoes, bear, duck, and keys out of gum paste. There are lots of boo boos on this cake!
Linda, ur top is very smooth, beautifully done.
Thank you Ruby. Coming from someone that is taking courses or taken courses, that means a lot to me.

Love this cake Linda. I've never heard of faux fondant, but executed it very well. LOL. I love those short cuts! Did you take any decorating classes. Your a fabulous decorator.
