It did turn out pretty well even though I did get off on my sizes--the cake was a little more crowded than I had planned, but these things do happen!

No, it was actually from the plates being used at the shower. I covered the letters on both sides with clear contact paper (to protect from butter in frosting) and carefully cut them out with an exacto knife. The letters and the fondant decos where then applied with a dab of buttercream to hold in place on the cake. I did this for my grandnephew shower cake.
