Happy birthday to me...and Canada too!!
My very pregnant daughter, son in law, and 2 1/2 yr old grandson have been living living with us until they move into there new home in a couple of weeks. I knew my daughter was due with baby boy #2 around my birthday. So I decided to start working on my two bottom dummy tiers a couple of months ago. I also baked and froze my cake with the fondant on to save time. Once thawed to room temperature, I popped it onto the dummy tiers and added my embellishments. I was really happy about getting a smooth finish and crisp sides. Doesn't happen very often for me. The ganache definitely helped. Good thing I was thinking ahead, as my daughter had baby boy Lennon 4 days ago!! It's kinda of crazy chaotic around here!!
I thought it would be fun to use all molds and impression mats. There always sitting in my drawer, hardly being used. Wanted something fun, fast and easy. The fantasy gumpaste flowers are combo of a mold and cutters. Flower topper is made from coffee filter papers. Cake is a coffee mocha, I covered with homemade mmf. Fondant was coloured a very pale purple and flavoured with espresso coffee, with instant coffee kneaded into it for a distinctive taste and look.
I just had to add the little Canada flag on the back of the cake, cause after all, it's my country, Canada's birthday too!!
