Nichola, I used a clay gun to extrude a gumpaste rope, then shaped the rope into numbers.  After shaping, I covered the numbers with wax paper, then flattened them with a cake board.

I think the pan sizes were 6" and 9". Each tier was about 4 1/4" tall. I use 1/2"-thick foam-core board under each tier, which adds a bit of height. I level each of my layers at 1 3/4" high, and put a layer of buttercream between them that's about 1/2" thick. Hope that helps!
