With something like the birds, though, there is always something else to be done while you wait so I'm not just twiddling my thumbs. It doesn't, however, bother me one bit to cut out freehand, flatten and mark 900 tiny feathers and apply them one at a time, so I guess I do have patience of a sort.

That is just the opposite of me! I cannot even wait for part of one little cookie to dry, before applying the second coat! lol Maybe you will be a good influence on me! ha ha

Comment by Sandra Smiley on July 10, 2014 at 3:34pm: The long wing feathers and tail feathers are wired just like leaves or flower petals. I did let some of them dry overnight until I discovered the wires held them in place enough to make drying unnecessary. It does take a whole bunch of hours. I have started to add the wing feathers to the flying bird (on the right) and the extra weight was making him sag backwards on his perch. While I was trying to reinforce and strengthen his perch, I managed to break two of his feathers and break loose two of the lady (left) bird's long tail feathers! Thought I would NEVER get the goof to sit correctly on the perch, but finally made it. Then I had to repair his broken feathers - not too hard a fix. THEN I had to try to replace her stupid tail feathers. I did not think I was going to be able to get it to work, but I finally did and I think it is stronger than before. This one I almost gave up, which made me want to cry because I already have so much time invested in this pair. I am planning to use them as the topper for a wedding cake entry at the Tennessee State Fair (in September) coupled with a bunch of tropical flowers. If it comes together as planned, this will be your big cake, Bonnie, about 3-1/2 to 4 feet tall.

You must really plan ahead if you let them dry till hard, then put them on. I am continually amazed at your ability to do/add all these intricate little details, that make all the difference. Hope I am properly putting into words how I perceive all these things.
