My sister wanted an over the top pink and white cake for her granddaughter's birthday today, so this is what I came up with. She is a little girly girl to the max. This cake is an almond sour cream white cake, with almond butter cream icing. Pearls are made from gum paste and super pearl luster dust. Double row of ruffles at the bottom done in pink and white. Used a small rose mold to place a gum paste and luster dusted rose in between each set of ruffles. The white flowers at the top is actually brushed embroidery, but with real butter cream, it seemed to melt too much back into the cake. Used pearl dragees in two different sizes, big ones on the top border, and small ones in the white flower area.

Just beautiful Linda!!!
The other mediums are a piece of cake compared to piping:)
June, I would love you just dropping in....but you would have to give me lots of notice!
Diana, I guess it's what I do best since I've done it for over 35 years and more. I'm a novice at fondant, gum paste, modeling chocolate, and a lot of other mediums, but I know having a variety of skills under your belt is what will increase visibility and sales, so...I'm slowly learning new skills.
I teach Wilton for Michaels and most people don't even want to learn to pipe, let alone even know what Lambeth style is! They want to move right to Fondant and Gumpaste. I love cake decorating and all the different mediums that you can use, but old fashioned piping is a true art form!! I feel every decorator should have it in their bag of tricks:) And you do a very nice job keeping it alive from the looks of all your work that I've seen:)
June, you just need to come visit me for a few months and whip me into physical shape, and I'll whip you into old school piping shape! lol
June, you are such a sweetheart. Thanks for those kind words. But I know where I fall short in certain areas, and old school piping seems to be something that is slowly becoming a thing of the past, so I don't know if I will ever learn certain things if it completely dies out. It's really a shame, too. I hope enough decorators will keep it alive and pass it on down to another generation.
You are so right Dianne & Linda
My 1st classes years ago, I learned some basic piping. But there are so many lovely piping elements that I would love to do, but it is really something you need to learn first hand. And most of those classes, if you can find one, are expensive. You don't need any classes Linda....YOU should be teaching them!!!!
