I guessed there had to be air brushing on there to get that effect.  I would love to try that, but can't justify the expense of a machine just for the occasional go as I'm only a 'family and friends' caker.  To be able to achieve this in only a year is extraordinary.

I'm surprise myself It came out this perfect. I started baking a year ago and fell in love with it. I found that i loved doing custom cakes, i learn new techniques every day. For the cake, I used a small ball baking pan for the head, and a 10 inch round cake pan for the body. Then, i carved the the shape of the cat, covered it with fondant, then used various cake decorating tools to make the different expression/features. After that, i airbrushed the colors on it. The whiskers are noodles and the eyes were traced with an edible marker. I hope this helps.

I just can't get over this cake - I keep coming back to it.  The expression on the face is exactly right.  Please tell us how you constructed and painted this.
