Hi Rebecca! thanks for the friend request! Have you ever used gumpaste? I am trying that today!

I am so nervous about the gum paste LOL just like I have been with everything else. I have never been creative but have the desire.

    Hi rebecca:

The difference between fondant and gumpaste: Fondant is used for covering cakes, it is also called satin ice, fondant is very soft and not suitable for decorations, such as figurines or flowers and such. Gumpaste (called sugar paste) is made for decorations, not for covering a cake, gumpaste has it elasticity because of certain ingredients that make it pliable such as tylose. it dries very hard to substain the shape of the decorations. you can make a quick gumpaste by adding tylose to fondant. There is also pastillage which dries very very fast and is stronger than gumpastes when dried, pastillege is used to make certain decorations, like boxes,(i made a box of pastillage for the tiffany engagemnt cake,it was a keepsake box topper that held the diamond on top.
    hope this helps you.

You can purchase GUM TEX made by WILTON at your local AC MOORE OR MICHAELS STORE and if you have a 40% off coupon, which you can get by goin onto the website an signing up, both stores take competitors coupons. if you have neither of these stores in your immediate area, you can also find Gum Tex by wilton at Walmart, they have a wilton section in all walmarts. With gum tex you just follow the instruction and youve made gumpast. Tylose is something that can be purchased online cake decorating stores, such as www.sugar craft.com, but you would have to find the recipe online for it,and the tylose would be more expensive to make, with the gum tex by wilton you just add glucose (which is white corn syrup) and water, its alot easier.
    good luck!

    Thanks rebecca:

I have been decorating for some time now approx. 18yrs give or take a few. I have never gone to classes,my lifestlye as a mom & wife just did not permit me to take a 4year college course. We only had one college that had the course, and you had to travel. So i decided to teach myself. Wilton was how i learned, and i purchased as many books on decorating as i could find(which was sort of limited back then). But now dayz, you can get online tutorials, and i just join a very good website called Yummyart.com, they have free tutorials to members,it is $19.95 to join, i join for just one month and i have learned so much, i purchased their dvds(you get big discounts on them). I think its great you wanna open a bakery. I will send you my list of websits and dvds.

    Dear Rebecca:

I would say not 2 get discouraged, sometimes a vision is only seen by the person that dreams it! Everyone, no matter where you are will need a cake at some point in there life. The fact that there is no bakery where you are is a gold mine, your bakery will be needed. As for now,you are correct, it is best that you start out with wiltons, their books and tapes will teach you the beginning skills needed. Then yummyarts will build on those skills and help you enhance your designs. Maybe you can start a home bakery first, that way you can keep your present job. once your home bakery starts off then branch out to the store front bakery. I think you will do Great!! Let your vision of your own bakery lead you to success!
