I'm filipino but born and raised in Texas. Though my ethnicity and caking hobby haven't exactly intersected, I am curious what cake-decorating is like in the Philippines. I heard it is common for cake to be iced completely in royal icing. I'm guessing because of the heat/humidity.

Hi Erica!!! yes, mostly cakes iced with royal icing, but now a days a lot of bakers learmed already to do the buttercream and fondant. Royal is the easiest way to iced a cake and also cheap pne to sell in the market.

Fondant and buttercream normally used with the known bakeshop and for orders only as it is expensive cakes to sell in the philippines.
I'm the buttercream study now, and 2 more cakes to practice and will jump to fondant studying which i can't wait for. I just start collecting fondant tools and materials to that might need in my selfstudy of fondant.

What do you do? do you also take a class for cake decorating?

Hello Joy...i would like to ask if cheaper butter in the market would look good in making a buttercream icing. I attended a class and they are using an expensive one. I tried once but it cracked and some would say that it's possible to use the cheaper one but they will add something. Do you have an idea on this?
