Oh metria! This is fabulous! I've been dying to try my hand at modeling chocolate. Do you make your own or do you buy it pre-made?

Here's my latest geek cake. It was my first attempt at making such a large cake. Vadar stands 36" tall from board to top of head. I made this for my nephew's 18th bday...cause Vadar is his hero. I made his head, legs, butt & shoulders out of rice crispies. Torso is cake. I cheated with the light saber due to time constraints (it's a Wii remote) & the cape (fabric). Vadar wasn't perfect by a long shot...but this is only the 20th fondant cake I've ever made...so I don't have much experience. You can see some of my step-by-step photos on my FB cake page. https://www.facebook.com/DoWhatItCakes

Attn all Texas Cakers,

Currently the governor of Texas has a bill (SB 81) sitting on his desk that would allow bakers in the state of Texas to sell their baked goods directly to the consumer, so long as proper labeling is applied.

Please - if you want to see this pass (or even if it doesn't effect your personally but you can spare 30 seconds of your time) go the the governor's contact page and write a message or call and tell the staff member who takes messages, that you want the governor to sign SB 81.

Here's the info you need to contact the governor's office. Thank you so much.

Call the governor and leave a message to sign "SB 81". 1-800-252-9600.
Or email a message thru the web page http://governor.state.tx.us/contact/contact.aspx

I support this cause so I will grudgingly allow the comment to stay, but please recognize in the future that scattershot activism can work against you.  This group is for geek cakes, not political activism.  As much as I've called, written letters, got friends to call, etc., even I am uncomfortable with you posting this on unrelated boards.  Other people from outside of Texas are on this group.  Really, this is spam.  The next time someone posts something on here so clearly outside the scope of the group, it will be reported as spam, even if it's something I personally like.

You risk alienating people from any cause with such tactics.  Again, I'm only allowing it to stay along with this warning in the hopes that nobody here ends up alienated from such an important cause.

Thank you Kimberly. I truly appreciate it! As someone who has learned everything on my own, and tinkers with extreme elements on my cakes (thus my geekiness) I only wanted to spread the word. I know many people on this website are home cakers hoping to break out on their own and start a business and this is a legit way for people to do it.  Again, thank you very much. Wasn't trying to spam anyone. Just wanted to get the word out to "cake" people, and this website is seems like a good place to start...

I'm self-taught too, but also have done political activism for years and I know how fast things can turn if the wrong toes are stepped upon.  I want that bill to pass very badly and I worry that spamming so many groups on this site will make people resent the information and turn against the bill.
